Home Solar Panel - Why Should I Use One?

December 3rd, 2008

To be honest it’s a no-brainer.. Energy prizes keep on rising, especially if you compare them to what a solar panel cost! So more and more people realize that they can hugely benefit from an infinite source of free energy:

A Home Solar Panel!

You definitely don’t want to miss out on this, because apart from the big benefits for our environment, Electric Solar Panels have a huge positive effect on your electricity bill!

Provide for yourself and your family!

Let’s face it - Can you rely on the utility company for 100% to take care of your family’s energy needs? I don’t mean to scare you, but look what happened to our Financial institutions. People thought those were pretty reliable..

With Electric Solar Panels you will have full control over your own energy source. That’s a big relief I can tell you!

Save money.. Or even make money!

Luckily, nowadays it is both easy and cheap to be totally self-sufficient using a Home Solar Panel, or even sell your surplus energy back to the electricity company!

Do you know how much a solar panel cost? Of course if you have a big budget you can buy a wind or solar power system ready-made,  they start around $3000. Since that’s still a bit expensive, the smart way to go is simply make them yourself!

By far the best manual to learn how to make a wind or solar power system is Earth4Energy. They offer the complete “idiot proof” guide, with clear videos for every step. You will learn how to easily:

  • Build your own Home Solar Panel
  • Build and install your own Wind Power system
  • Store your energy… For free! (This one is a real cash saver!)
  • Never get those huge electricity bills again!

So what are you waiting for? Join the growing group of citizens who take their energy supply in their own hands, build their own wind power system or home solar panel, and enjoy major cutbacks on their energy bills - or even make money selling green electricity back to the company! You will earn back what the solar panel cost in no time!

Make Solar Panels - Make a Solar Panel Yourself on a Weekend & Start Saving Money Instantly
Have you considered adding solar panels as an additional source of energy for your home, yet hesitate because of the high cost of the purchase and installation? Did you know you can make them yourself with materials found at your local hardware store? In addition, the cost to make a solar panel is less than $200.

One of our favorite channels on television is the “Green” channel that has all kinds of shows about “living green,” “off the grid” homes, and homes that use renewable energy sources. While watching these shows, many times the price of the alternative energy sources are quoted. The prices the shows quote are extremely high!

When my husband and I discussed adding solar panels to our home, we came to the conclusion it would be too expensive, that it would take years to ever get the savings back through a reduction in our electric bill.

Then we found a DIY Guide and Videos that shows how to make a solar panel for under $200. Once the guide was downloaded and printed, we found that the construction of a solar panel is not difficult at all. The guide gave us excellent illustrations and instructions to follow. It also gave us a list of materials to buy, and the best stores to buy the materials at the lowest cost.

Before making the solar panel, we were advised to decide where we will put it so it will get the best sun exposure. The actual making of the solar panel is not difficult, yet it is a bit labor intensive and will take several hours to complete.

It is exciting (to my husband and I) that we are now able to add an additional and renewable energy resource to our home and instantly lower our electric bill.

Just about anyone can learn how to make solar panels so they can lower their electric bill. If you would like to learn more about adding an alternative energy source to your home at a low cost, then you may wish to

Will The Price Of Solar Panels Come Down Anytime Soon?

December 21st, 2008

http://www.solardave.com/index.php/will-the-price-of-solar-panels-come-down-anytime-soon-video/
This is my 8th video interview with Erik Bowman Regional Sales Manager of Akeena Solar out of Denver Colorado.

SolarDave: Will The Price of Solar Panels Come Down Anytime Soon?

Erik Bowman: That is an interesting question and I don’t want to create and false expectations of clients, because yes over time as manufacturing ramps up there are companies all over the world making panels. As manufacturing ramps up, as demand increases the prices for panels should drop and it has dropped over time and we predict it will drop in the future.

At this time though the subsides in Colorado cover 50% to 60% of the cost of the system and even at that at cutting the cost at half is now that is even viable verses standard electricity. Even as the cost of the panel drops and what happens historically looking at German New York and California as the models the most mature solar economies in the world rebates drop over time as the cost to install goes down the rebates are there to make it make sense as the technology catches up.

So it will probably be 10 years, that is a total guess you would have to ask people that know more than me before the cost of a solar power system on its own without any subsides make equivalent and viable economic sense. Nobody can predict the future don’t know what is going to happen.

Right now with the rebates in place and you are installing a system that will produce electricity for 30 years at 7.5 cents a kilo watt hour it costs you 11.5 through Xcel right now.

So it is a matter of making a decision to say, I am willing to make a capital outlay up front in order to prepay my electricity at a cheaper kilowatt hour now, verses making increasing rates over time. And a lot of people are making that call.

How much does a solar panel cost?

December 7th, 2008

This depends on the system used, and the application (home or industrial). For a typical home application, the PV (photo voltaic) would be a 2,000 KW system with a street cost of $20,000 USD including installation.

In the State of Oregon, you would get a $4,500 instant rebate, meaning you would actually pay $15,500. An Oregon tax credit would return $6,000 more to you (the cap is currently $6,000), and the Federal rebate (available throughout the US) would return another $2,000 (that is the cap as well).

This would make the final cost of the system $7,500 in Oregon. Other states have credits as well. The credits are based on the need for states to control their rising energy costs, and they come out ahead by funding these systems.

Keep in mind that a solar water heater (which does not involve PV, but still uses the sun) would save 2,200 KWh/yr and cost $8,000 installed, but after all credits would cost only $3,800 in Oregon (about $2,120 is saved due to Oregon credits). This is a much lower price (about half!), but has about as much environmental benefit as the PV system.

Both options are fantastic environmentally, and save money for you if you will own the home for several years (5-15 depending on the amount you spend). In the case of solar water systems, the cost has been shown to be directly equal the increase in percieved value of the home, so even if you sold the home prior to the return on investment for energy saved, you would come out ahead.
